The graduate research group “New Travel – New Media” at the University of Freiburg was funded by the Volkswagen Foundation from 2018 to 2023.

In the twenty-first century, travel and its various forms of representation are mediated in new and diverse ways. Our graduate research group “New Travel New Media” focused on the triad of practice, experience and media. It aimed to understand and analyse the circulations of contemporary experiences of travel. We were particularly interested in the role digital and social media play in the production, distribution and reception of travel representation.
